5 Ways To Survive Your Flight
Congratulations, you lucky traveler you!
You are just about to embark on an exciting trip! Now the hard part, trying to survive your horrifyingly long flight. I can almost here you sigh, “Why, oh why must airplanes be so uncomfortable?” Unfortunately I don’t have an answer to that BUT I do have some helpful tips on how to survive your those hours squashed between two strangers at 37000 ft.
Upgrade your ticket
Treat yo’ self. But really being on the upgrade list can do wonders for yourself while traveling. Spending just a bit more for that extra leg room, comfortable seat, edible food, and friendly human service is well worth the extra money if you’re willing to pay.
Chances are your carry on doesn’t hold much. Try and pack collapsable items such as a water bottle. Condense your electronic items as well. Do you really need your laptop, tablet, phone AND e-reader? Most likely not. Be realistic on what you will actually have time to do on your flight and pack only what’s essential. It will save you from lugging it around the airport all day.
Create a footrest
Being able to raise your feet during your flight really helps you feel more comfortable. It also helps with your circulation which is really important on long flights. Using your carry-on as a footrest is a creative way to provide some comfort. Just make sure not to pack anything breakable in your bag. If you’re willing to splurge a bit foot hammock’s for flights are a nice alternative. Fly Legs Up is perfect for those who want a bit of luxury.
Take advantage of your flight attendant
Ok don’t take that the wrong way. I’m just saying they are there to help you. Just a friendly smile and asking politely could encourage them to make your flight even better. I’ve had flights where I’ve been given extra snacks or a nice first class pillow or blanket. Remember, although they are there to help you get to your destination, they are people too.
Load up on entertainment
While most flights have complimentary tv shows and movies, there are many times where the system breaks, there isn’t anything good on, or you want to watch at times that aren’t being showed. Take the time before you leave to put something that will keep you entertained on your device. That way you know you can watch something you’d like and you’ll be guaranteed a less boring flight. In a pinch, many airlines are now offering internet packages you can buy to keep your boredom at bay, but don’t bother trying to stream, it doesn’t work.
Pro tip: also pack some comfortable headphones. The ones airlines provide are extremely painful and don’t work very well.
While flying is always a bitter sweet event, being prepared and comfortable is always the best way to arrive without going crazy. I hope you’ve enjoyed these tips and find them useful.
