New Year: New Travels

With the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017 everyone starts to choose their New Year’s Resolutions and their vacation destinations. I’ve compiled a list of 12 vacations to take this new year. That’s a vacation a month for the truly wanderlust!

For the Mountains:

Canada- With the mountains scattered throughout the country, Canada is the perfect choice for a mountain getaway in 2017. Wether you go in summer or winter there is always plenty to do. Hiking, skiing, biking, paddle boarding and more means there is something for everyone.

Why 2017? Canada has made a HUGE announcement this year, all of their national parks will have free entry for all of 2017 so anyone can experience and enjoy all the beauty Canada has to offer.

Alternate location: Colorado- If Canada is a bit too far or you think they are too polite, you can head a bit south to Colorado. Colorado has one of thecolorado-mountain-landscape-wallpaper-3 most beautiful mountain ranges in the world (not that I’m biased) so you know there are many places to choose to visit. With 58 mountains with a 14,000 foot elevation and above, Colorado is literally breathtaking. It is also home to some AMAZING skiing, hiking, and great events all year round.

Why 2017?– Aspen hosts a Food and Wine Classic every year and it does not disappoint. FOOD AND WINE PEOPLE! Right at the beginning of summer. It is not to be missed. The dates are from June 16-18. Stick around a few more weeks to experience the 4th of July in the mountains. Imagine the fireworks over a mountain backdrop above a stunning lake. What are you waiting for?

For the Beach:

Whitsunday Islands, Australia- Picture white sandy beaches, sailboats cruising around, and being right on the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef. These are just a few wonders you can experience in the Whitsunday Islands. I’m not even joking, the beaches there are crystal clear blue water paired with the whitest sand anywhere. This is the perfect vacation for adventurers and loungers alike.

Why 2017?– The Whitsundays are located on the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef which has been reported to be dying off and bleached. I took a trip to the GBR earlier this year and could see how sad it was. You can read about my trip here.  Go see this natural wonder of the world while you still can.

Seriously look at that scenery.

Alt location: Maui, Hawaii- Ok, I’m going to be upfront and tell you I am completely biased. Maui is like my second home. Regardless of how much I’m in blacksandbeachmauiLOVE with Maui, it is a destination I think everyone should experience. There are so many beaches to choose from whether you want family beaches with parks, black sand beaches, or beaches with huge waves. Maui has EVERYTHING! Seriously, start packing your bags!

Why 2017?– The beautiful sugar cane plantations that grew at the base of Mount kam-3-beachHaleakala used to be a stunning place to visit. Now with Maui becoming a more popular living destination, they are removing the fields and replacing them with condos (GASP, SHRIEK, HORROR) Try and go before they are all gone!

For the Value:

Nepal- If you are looking for a place where your dollar will go far Nepal is the place for you. You can easily spend less than $50/day and even if you’re feeling adventurous with a flight around the mountains it’s still fairly cheap compared to other popular excursions. The beauty here is absolutely magical and Nepal should definitely be on your travel list.

Why 2017?- Recently Nepal fell victim to a massive earthquake which was devistating to their tourism industry. The country’s main business is tourism so supporting this industry helps out tremendously. There is still some damage around but everything is still up and running and the friendly people welcome visitors!

nepal
I’m in love with their flags everywhere. And that view, come on!

Alt location: South Africa- Is Nepal too long of a flight? Looking for somewhere warmer? South Africa is a great substitute. The American dollar is going strong

south-africa

and there is plenty to do. Costal walks, hikes, beaches, fascinating culture and much more.

Why 2017?- Table Top Mountain in Cape Town, SA was just named one of the new natural wonders of the world. It is a stunning place that is worth a visit. Go there this year to bet the crowds before it becomes too popular.

For the Luxury:

France- Everyone knows the draw Paris has to any traveler but most people forget about the rest of the country. Everywhere you go is an experience not to be forgotten. The countryside is perfection, the accommodation is lavish and the food and wine is delicious. If you are looking for an all out vacation anywhere in France is a good bet.

Why 2017?- With some recent negative events in France and the world economy changes the Euro has dropped. This means that it is cheaper for other countries to make the most of their money in Europe.

Alt location: Fiji- If Fiji hasn’t been on your bucketlist since forever what rock have you been hiding under? Fiji is a perfect location for the luxury traveler (or the

fiji

budget traveler). With pristine beaches, a constant array of festivals and many all inclusive resorts Fiji is for everyone.

Why 2017?- Why not? Seriously Fiji is full of beautiful people, food, and beaches. Fijians are known as some of the most friendly people in the world. Make 2017 an unforgettable year and treat yo’ self.

For the Experiences:

New Zealand- The south island is literally one of the most stunning places in the world I have ever seen. Queenstown is actually named the adventure capital of the world. With skiing, bungee jumping, white water rafting, the hydro attack (a submarine/jet ski/shark hybrid) and many more, New Zealand is THE place to be for the adventure seekers and adrenaline junkies.

Why 2017?- Milford Sound on the south island has recently been named the 8th wonder of the world and if you’ve ever seen a picture I doubt you would argue. New Zealand has consistently been voted among travelers favorite locations and is growing more and more popular each year. Go soon before it becomes too crowded.

Alt location: Bahamas- Want your adventures to be a bit more tropical themed? The Bahamas is the perfect location for you then. The Bahamas are made up of 700

bahamas

islands (don’t worry, only 30 are inhabited) so there are plenty of options. The islands are water wonderlands with activities like scuba diving, stand up paddleboarding, stingray adventures, and so many more, there is never a dull moment. If you are feeling extra adventurous, head over to Atlantis in Nassau and take a Leap of Faith down the water slide through a shark-filled lagoon.

Why 2017?- The Bahamas is a popular cruise destination for many cruise lines. Many cruise lines offer great last minute deals on vacations. Why not plan a spur of the moment trip and make it unforgettable?

For the Families:

Japan- Many people would be shocked to hear me suggest that families should visit Japan. Stay with me though, Japan is full of exciting things to see for adults and kids alike! Public transportation is easy to get around, there are plenty of family friendly activities such as Nara Park with wild deer that roam around, Tokyo Disney (which is a MUST VISIT if you can), plenty of temples and great museums that interest people of all ages. Japan has plenty of great spas for the parents to unwind and their citizens are fans of Kawaii which is a big hit with kids. Your family will thank you for taking them there.

Why 2017?- Japan has such a rich culture and is always creating something new. Technology is huge in Japan and with our families being so into gadgets why not take them to the center of it all? It might even inspire you to start your own family inventions!

japan
Busy lit streets of Japan are a dream come true for people watching.

Alt location: Florida- I’m sure you’ve heard it before, and you’re going to hear it again. Florida is one of the greatest places to take a family for vacations! floridaWith DisneyWorld, Universal Studios, beaches galore, and more, the whole state is basically one giant theme park! Yeah it might be kinda pricey if you don’t plan well but you are guaranteed to win parent of the year for your family and have many memories for a lifetime! Just remember there is so much more to Florida than Orlando, check out the Florida Keys and along the coast as well.

Why 2017?- There is always so much going on in Florida all year round but with that being said, Florida attractions get more expensive every year. Go in 2017 so you can save some money instead of paying more in later years. Plus, if you’re making a trip to DisneyWorld (which I highly recommend), Animal Kingdom’s restoration was recently just completed and it is totally worth a trip in itself!

With the new year ahead of you why not take a couple “me” days and get out and explore! In case you didn’t notice I gave you 12 places to travel, that’s one a month people! Here’s to the new year and 12 months of travel! Enjoy!
